As there can be an awful lot of bad press about the “Youth of Today” this week’s blog gives me even more pleasure to write than normal.
We were recently approached by a young man of 16, Oli, who was looking for some part time work with Clean Shield that would fit in with his studies (this in itself made a refreshing change, as it is normally Mother’s calling to see if we have any work opportunities, and I quote, “for their idle son’s!”)
Our MD Kathy Price, was suitably impressed by this personal request and asked Oli in for an interview. When Oli arrived, he was punctual and smartly dressed, Oli explained to Kathy that he was a student studying at Severn Vale School in Quedgeley and that his future plans were to qualify as an Electrician and that in the interim he would not only like to gain some work experience but earn his own money.
Anyone that reads our blogs regularly will know that Kathy is all about encouraging people’s individual personal development and with Oli’s attitude she had no hesitation in giving Oli an opportunity with Clean Shield.
Kathy put Oli under the guidance of Clean Shield Supervisor, Kerry. In the few weeks that Oli has been with Clean Shield he has proven to be very hardworking and courteous young man, who has a good “Can do” attitude and this has been cemented by the great feedback we have had by all who have come into contact with Oli.
Clean Shield MD, Kathy Price said, “Oli has grasped the opportunity given to him with both hands and the experience has so far enhanced his communication skills, taught him the importance of deadlines & working in a team.
He is a credit to himself, his family and Severn Vale School, his time here has not only put Oli in good stead for wherever his future career path takes him, but will also gain him a glowing reference from Clean Shield.”
