Super Sharon Walks A Marathon With Pals And Raises £1,108.00 for Pancreatic Cancer … On 24th April this year, Sharon Read, Clean Shield supervisor, walked 26.6 miles, which is just over a marathon in length, to raise funds for pancreatic cancer charity Pancreaticcancer.org.uk.

Sharon walked in memory of her mother Valerie who sadly died of the disease in 2005.

There are around 9,400 pancreatic cancer deaths in the UK every year, 26 every day. Pancreatic cancer is the 6th most common cause of cancer death in the UK.  Pancreaticcancer.org.uk supports people affected by pancreatic cancer and they also fund breakthrough research.

Sharon, along with six friends – Marie, Lynnette, Elle, Maisie, Karen and Stephanie, walked along the canal bank from Gloucester to Sharpness and back again dressed in Pancreatic Cancer t-shirts and purple tutus to add some fun and sparkle to their day.  Their finish line was Park End Swing Bridge, where they celebrated their efforts with well-deserved leg rubs and a glass of fizz!

Sharon comments: “We had a really fun day; we were really lucky with the weather and between us we raised £1,108.00 for this worthwhile charity.  It felt really great to do something so worthwhile in memory of my mum Valerie.”

Sharon has worked for Clean Shield for just over a year now and supervises a team at Newmedica,  one of our medical centres in the centre of Gloucester.

Well done Sharon!  We are really proud of you for doing this in aid of pancreatic cancer.
